Burlington, New York to Manchester, New Hampshire Day 18 of 43

New hampshire is a pretty state and the trees are only just beginning to colour.  We came for the fall colours but still the green is wonderful too.

We ventured off the highway and had lunch in a little town called Bethel, which was established in 1779. Very small and classic old place with buildings of the time and sadly they are not as well preserved as they could be. It would be great if we all had                                                                                                                             enough money to restore  these lovely buildings.

We walked along the main street for a little while in the brilliant sunshine and came upon a cafe.  The menu was quite extensive and the day we were there a town councillor and the local librarian were running the cafe while the regular owner had       some days off.

We saw through the window a number of interesting nick nacks.

The helmet here has a profile of a moose attached to the top –   interesting !!

The shop also housed a large collection of Vermont Wines.  We bought a couple – one white, one red and sadly we had to open them today to ascertain their quality.  Again, sadly we found that they were fantastic and now it is too far to return to get some more.

The buildings are the originals from the 1700s and are gorgeous to look at and imagine what life was like then.

The dam, was just next to the building where we ate lunch                                                                     and the women serving us moved two tables together to look out the window at the water.

We drove on very efficient highways to get to Manchester and passed signs for deer again.

The highways were very well maintained, wide and fast.

The highways are direct, fast, long and very useful.

And then we saw signs for Salem and Boston.  Woo Hoo. Very Exciting.
